Change of Plans
The aroma of sweet vanilla cake filled the house. Mummy was baking in the kitchen. She took the cake out of the oven and set it on the table to cool.
David and Ellie wanted some cake, but they knew Mummy had made it for friends.
“Are you thinking what I’m thinking?” David whispered to Ellie.
“What are you thinking?” asked Ellie.
“I want some cake,” he said.
“Me too," said Ellie.
“I have an idea,” David said. “This will be a great adventure.” “Now, we’ll pretend we are explorers looking for a magic meal that can make us strong.”
“Yes,” said Ellie.
“Mummy is the giantess who guards the cake.”
"Uhuh," said Ellie, folding her arms.
“We’ll wait for the giantess to have her bath at the magic waterfall.”
“Mhmm”
“Then we’ll cut a little piece from the bottom; that way no one will know,” he concluded.
But Mummy had heard their plan. She had been standing behind them the whole time.
“Ahem!” she coughed.
That made David and Ellie start.
“I have a quest for both of you,” she said, pulling out a long list of things to do.
She sent David off to work in the shed, and she made Ellie tidy her room.
After a long time, David and Ellie finished their chores. They discovered the cake was gone. There was only an empty plate with tiny crumbs. It made them feel a little sad.
Just then, Mummy walked in with two big slices of cake.
“One for you, David, and one for you, Ellie,” she said. “Next time, just ask,” she added with a wink.
They enjoyed their cake and laughed at their silly plan.
The end.
