David and The Blue Lights

It was a beautiful Saturday morning. David wanted to get a new pair of socks. Grandma had given him some pocket money. He had also saved up some money Mummy had given him for helping around the house.

He skipped down the road to the tiny shop at the end of the street. It had a colourful sign that read 'SOCK SHOP’.

“This is just what I’m looking for,” said David as he entered the store.

The room had a blue bulb, and David loved blue lights. He thought it made the store look fancy. There was music playing loudly on the stereo. It went BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! David’s head bobbed like a squash ball to the sound of the music.

"Hello, young man," said a round man with a wide grin. He owned the store.

“What can I get you?” he asked as he gave David a chair to sit on.

“I’d like a pair of red socks,” David replied.

So, the smiling man went searching through sacks and piles of socks. He flung pairs of socks and stockings behind him quickly as he searched. His large belly wiggled as he ran here and there.

David chuckled as the friendly bumble bee-like man buzzed about. The man returned with a pair of red socks. David said thank you and walked happily out of the store.

“I’ll have one look at my beautiful red socks,” he said to himself as he walked home. So he pulled out his socks but was surprised to find a pair of orange socks. He turned to go back to this store. These socks would have to be exchanged for a red pair.

At the store, the shop owner took the socks and buzzed away to find a red pair. He climbed a pile of socks David had named 'Stocking Hill'. Stocking Hill was an enchanted hill full of socks and stockings with magical colours. The owner of the store was the giant bumblebee that kept the socks at Stocking Hill, and the stockings were…

“Hello there!” came a loud voice, calling David out of his thoughts. It was the giant bumblebee holding out a pair of socks. They looked green to David.

“Are you sure these are red?” David asked, looking hard at the pair next to the blue lights.

“Pretty sure,” said the giant bumblebee.

Once again, David thanked the giant bumblebee and left the store. When he went outside, he found out at once that he was holding a pair of yellow socks. He stared wide-eyed at the pair.

Just then, a kind old lady was passing by. She was a little lady with a sun hat and a beautiful cane.

“She must be the angel of Stocking Hill,” David said to himself with a silly grin.

“Always look under the sun, dearie," she said with a wonderful smile. “Blue lights are no good," she said and scrambled off.

He said thank you and went back into the store.

This time, whenever the bumblebee brought a pair of socks, he would step into the sunlight and look.

“It’s indigo, sir.”

“This is a black pair.”

“No, this is blue.”

Finally, he found a pair of red socks. He said, 'Thank you' to the clumsy giant bumblebee and waved goodbye. It had been a fun adventure with the blue lights at Stocking Hill.

The End.
