Off To Slumber Hill - A Short Story for Kids
“AAAAAWWWWWW!” yawned Reva. It was bedtime, but he didn’t want to go to bed. Playing with bricks was a lot of fun. It wasn’t long until his head dropped. A brick fell out of his hands. He was very sleepy.
“Bedtime,” Mummy said, stretching her arms to carry him.
“I’m not sleepy!” Reva said. He blinked a few times and shook himself. He wanted to stay awake.
“You are, too,” said Ellie, softly.
“I’m building a castle,” he told Mummy.
“It can wait until morning,” said Mummy.
Still, Reva didn’t want to go to bed. Quickly, he stood up and placed one brick on top of the other.
With half-shut eyes and half a frown, Reva said, “I’m not sleepy!”
So, Mummy let him play. But soon, Reva sat down. His eyes shut slowly, and he lay quietly on the floor. The next time he opened his eyes, he was in Daddy’s arms.
“Nooo!” he cried. “I don’t want to go to bed. I’m not sleepy!”
“But you are,” Daddy said. “Come on. Off to bed with you.”
But Reva didn’t want to go to bed.
“Fluffy the teddy bear and Mr. Elephant are sleepy,” David said with a twinkle in his eyes.
“Are they?” asked Reva.
“Yes. And they’re both off to Slumber Hill. There they’ll have a bedtime story and a lullaby.”
“Where is Slumber Hill?" Reva asked as his head rested on Daddy’s shoulders.
“You’ll see in a minute,” said David. “The Guardian of the Hill is taking you there,” was David’s reply.
So, Daddy – the Hill’s Guardian – carried Reva up the hill. David placed Fluffy the teddy bear and Mr. Elephant next to Reva. Ellie read him a bedtime story. But before she was done, Reva was asleep. So they all tiptoed to the door. There was a loud CREAAAAK when the door was opened. That made Reva jump up and say,
“But what happened to Mr. Sugar Plum?”
So they all came back to his side. Ellie finished her story, and Mummy sang a lullaby.
“Good night, Reva,” Ellie said.
"Good night, Reva," David said.
“Good night, Reva,” Mummy said.
“Good night, Reva,” Daddy said.
But Reva didn’t say goodnight because he was fast asleep. Mummy tucked him in and gave him a kiss.
Again, they all tiptoed to the door. When they opened it, there was a loud CREAAAAAK. And when they closed it, there was an even louder CREEEEAAAAAAK! But this time, Reva didn’t stir. He was fast asleep.
The End
