Reva’s Adventure with Prince Mighty Small – A Short Children’s Story
“Reva! Ellie! David!” Mummy called. “Come and have a piece of cake!”
There were pieces of cake all of different sizes – big ones and small ones. There was a large chunk set aside for later. David took a piece, and Ellie took a piece. Reva, however, wanted the largest pieces. So, he grabbed the large chunk and bit into it.
“Isn’t that too big for you?” Mummy asked.
Reva shook his head. “No!” he said and bit into the cake.
He never ate it all up. It was too big for him.
“Would you like a glass of orange juice?” Mummy asked as she set a tray down. On the tray were three cups and a large jug of orange juice. David had a cup of juice, and so did Ellie. Little Reva climbed a chair. He took the jug of orange juice and drank from it.
“No, Reva,” said Ellie. I’ll pour you a cup. But Reva wanted all of it. Soon he got unsteady. W-H-O, W-H-O, WHOA! All the juice was spilt on the flour. The juice was wasted.
Later, Daddy came home. He bought watches. A pink watch for Ellie. A blue watch for David, and a light blue watch for Reva. Reva wanted David’s watch even though it wasn’t his size. So he wore it.
“That’s mine, Reva,” David said. “This is yours.”
Still Reva wouldn’t take the watch off. The blue watch danced about on his tiny wrist.
“Oh, you’re acting just like Prince Mightysmall,” David said.
Ellie and Reva knew David was talking about an imaginary prince. They loved David’s adventures. They were always fun.
“Ellie, you remember him, don’t you?” David asked. “The tiny prince who likes grand things.”
“Yes, I do. He’s the prince who ordered a big pot of cereal for breakfast. At the end, he only ate two mouthfuls,” Ellie said.
Together, they walked to the kingdom whose prince was called Mightysmall.
When they got there, everyone was very busy because it was Prince Mighty Small’s birthday. The baker had baked a giant cake. All the citizens of the kingdom were wrapping gifts. The gifts were so big, everyone had to help carry them. Ellie, David, and Reva also helped. They carried the cake into Prince Mightysmall’s castle. The prince was sitting on an enormous throne. It was so big he had to use a ladder to climb it. And what a long time it took to sit down. Reva thought it was silly.
Breakfast was served. It was bread and butter. There were also apples. The prince loved apples. He climbed down from his throne and went to the tray of apples. There were small apples, and there were big apples. There were normal apples, and there was a gigantic apple. It was really a fancy decoration: a clay apple. The prince liked all things big, so he reached out and grabbed it. But it came crashing down because it was too heavy.
“Doesn’t he know apples don’t grow that large?” said Reva, a little upset.
It was time for the prince to get dressed. And because it was his birthday party, he had ordered extra, extra, EXTRA-large clothes. They were so large that he got lost in them. It took all the guards of the kingdom to find him.
“Why doesn’t he wear the right size?” Reva asked.
At last, the party was to begin. But Prince Mightysmall was tired. He hadn’t had any breakfast, and he was worn out from climbing up and down his throne. It didn’t help either that he got lost in his clothes. Thank God the guards had found him. Large things don’t always mean better, and for the first time Prince Mightysmall could see that. He no longer wanted large things.
When it was time to serve cake, he asked the baker to cut it into nice slices for everyone to share. Everyone had a piece and so did Reva, Ellie, and David. The Prince also had a piece. He went for seconds and thirds.
When the party was over, the children went home. Reva didn’t want David’s watch anymore, so he gave it back to him.
“Here is your watch, David,” Reva said. “It’s too big for me.”
Reva loved his watch. It was the right size.
“Time to go to bed,” Mummy said.
The children were happy to rest. It had been a fun adventure with Prince Mightysmall.
The End
