Reva’s Adventure on Number
David, Ellie, and Reva were watching their favourite show when Mummy turned off the TV.
“It’s homework time,” she said, so the three children walked to the dining table.
Ellie and David worked on their assignments, but Reva had to wait for Daddy to help him. He was learning to count. While waiting, he thought it was really funny to pull David’s pen out of his hands when he was writing.
“Look over there,” David said, pretending to be looking at a bridge.
“What?” asked Reva, who loved David’s imaginary games.
“It’s Number Bridge, the only passage to Storyland."
“Storyland?” repeated Reva in excitement.
“If we don’t cross the Number Bridge, then we won’t have a bedtime story tonight,” David explained.
“No…” whispered Reva.
Travellers skipped over Number Bridge, each counting from one to ten as they hopped along the wobbly bridge.
“Easy peasy,” said David, taking a big jump, but the bridge started to bounce about and threw him off with a loud BOING! That made Reva squeal with laughter.
“Ow,” David groaned. “It’s not as easy as it seems. How can we get across?” David said, scratching his head like he was really trying to figure it out.
“You must know how to count from one to ten,” answered Ellie, who had just joined the adventure.
“Reva, you have to help us since you can count to ten,” David pleaded.
"Yippee!" shouted Reva as he bounced up and down. “Follow me,” he said, marching to the bridge.
David and Ellie had placed the numbers one to ten in order along the bridge. Every time Reva said what the number was, they all took a step forward until they all crossed the bridge safely.
But a gruff giant was standing at the end of the bridge. He had a paper hat and a large box of popcorn and wouldn’t let them cross over into Story Land.
“One of you must count from one to ten, or else no one goes through!” he said while chewing on his popcorn.
David and Ellie looked at Reva and nodded.
“One… Two… Three… Four… Five… Six… Seven… Eight… Nine… Nine…” counted Reva, pausing at nine. “What number comes after nine?” he wondered, looking up at the ceiling.
The giant began to hop about and do a silly dance.
“No bedtime story for youuu! No bedtime story for youuu!!!” he began to sing, but Reva remembered that ten comes after the number nine.
“It’s ten!" he shouted happily. They had won.
The giant read them a bedtime story and said goodnight. They rested peacefully after a great adventure on Number Bridge.
