Tricky Tricks

“It was the first day of April, a day of tricks. David, Ellie, and Reva decided to have an adventure in the living room. They imagined they were in an enchanted land. This land was called the ‘Land of Tricks’.

“The King of the Land of Tricks has told me,” said David in a loud and thunderous voice, “that whoever plays the first three tricks today will be king for a day,” he said, swaying like a banana peel as he spoke; this made Reva laugh.

“And as king, you can do anything you like and ask for whatever you want,” he said.

“If I’m king, I’ll have everyone’s ice cream,” said Reva, dreamily.

“Ellie!” Mummy called out from her room, and Ellie went away to her. Meanwhile, David was thinking of how he would be king for a day. Finally, he came up with a really great plan when Ellie returned.

“Mummy said we should all prepare to go to Grandma's place,” she said.

“Yay!” Reva screamed, but David was quiet. He thought it was a trick, so he picked up a book and began to read aloud.

“I’ll never be fooled!!” he thought to himself.

Reva and Ellie got dressed, but David wouldn’t look up.

When he saw them all dressed up, he clapped, thinking it was silly for them to try so hard to trick him.

CLAP! CLAP!! CLAP!!!

“What a trick,” he said.

“It’s not a trick,” Ellie said with a scowl. “Go and get dressed.”

But he sat so much stiffer and stiller than before, it looked like he was glued to the chair. “She’ll never prank me,” he said to himself, again.

Ellie thought it was funny and laughed.

A few moments later, Mummy walked into the living room and said, “It’s time to go!”

“What?!” David cried, his eyes looking as if they would pop.

“Why aren’t you dressed, David?” Mummy asked, squinting. “You have five minutes to get dressed!”

He sped off to his room, while Ellie and Reva shook with hearty giggles.

David rejoined them well dressed and ready to go to Grandma's place, where they had fun, but there were no more tricks for the day.

The end.
